Change in Estate Tax Law. The federal estate tax exemptions are very generous. Here are the current exemption levels:

• 2025 - $13.99 million per individual
• 2026 - $15 million per individual
• After 2027 - $$15 million per individual adjusted for inflation

Your wills are drafted to take advantage of the step-up in basis that happens when property is subject to the estate tax but no taxes are paid because the value of the Estate is lower than the exemption amounts. .

Change in Texas Estates Code. Not likely. The law is very static in this area.
